Mpls to Queens NY (not verified), on Apr 11, 2008 at 04:23 pm
As a former Minneapolis and current Queens NY resident, i must say that the Queens system has successfully transformed itself to serve the populace of the 21st century much more than the Mpls/HC branches. The Queens system realized that libraries are not just about books, they are about providing useful information for free to the public. The Queens libraries realize that there is a huge demand for online access, non-english language books, and technical classes by native and (growing) immigrant populations; and they have adapted. I think in regards to looking how to serve a diverse (or not so diverse) population in the internet age, Minneapolis would do well to look east.
