More letters about Father, Forgive Them…

Dear Fr. Buffer,
I write in response to your May, 2002 article titled, “Father Forgive Them.” My daughter attends a parochial elementary school. My schedule often doesn’t allow time for her to change from her uniform after school and get into play clothes before going to places like the drugstore, supermarket or library. I have often reminded her that she should be on her best behavior in these public places, epecially when she is wearing that plaid jumper. She understands that the people who will see her associate the plaid jumper with catholic schools. While being seen in the jumper, she has the privilege to represent her school and her faith and should behave accordingly. I say all of this in response to your question, “collar or no collar? My desperate answer to your question is, YES, PLEASE WEAR YOUR COLLAR! We must plant our heels firmly and stand unwavering in our faith especially during difficult times. You are our shepherd. Please wear your collar to the drugstore, supermarket and library. Wear your collar so that we can see our shepherd avoid the isles that promote pornography. Wear your collar and let us see that our shepherd avoids the temptation to thumb through the latest issue of “Rosie” at the checkout counter. Please wear your collar. Give reassurance to your sheep. Give us someone to follow, especially during times like these, when the wolves surround us. Your job is difficult, but so very important. Peace to you.
